Rulerships, Exaltations, Henads, and Monads Correlated with the Sections of Plato's Divided Line

Divided Line (Plato)

In the center is Plato’s Divided Line. Each of the four sections has at least two dignities associated with it: the one on top is labeled “objective” and the one below, “subjective.”

The topmost dignities, reading from left to right, are the rulerships of houses 12, 10, 7, and 4, and the ones below are the exaltations of houses 12, 10, 7, and 4 (though the last section of the line also lists Mercury in Virgo, the exaltation in house 6).

At the right end of the Line are the two planets in exaltation in the first quadrant, and these, together with the other exaltations listed just below the Line, constitute the Intellectual monad.

Below Venus in Pisces are the other signs in which it is in dignity, listed in the following order, reading top to bottom: fall (Body), detriment (Soul), detriment (Nature), exaltation (Intellect), rulership (Life), and rulership (Being). These constitute the Venus henad.

Below Mars in Capricorn are the other signs in which it is in dignity, listed in the following order, reading top to bottom: fall (Body), detriment (Nature), detriment (Soul), exaltation (Intellect), rulership (Life), and rulership (Being). These constitute the Mars henad.

Above the Divided Line are two groups of planetary glyphs, labeled “Sensible or visible” and “Intelligible,” which correspond to the two major divisions of the Line.

Under “Sensible” are two groups of planetary glyphs, labeled “Soul” and “Body,” which correspond to the two lower sections of the Line.

Under “Soul” are the planets in detriment (Soul), listed in four rows, which divide the detriments by quadrant. These planets constitute the Soul monad. Under “Body” are the planets in fall, listed in four rows, which divide the falls by quadrant. These planets constitute the Body monad.

Under “Intelligible” are two groups of planetary glyphs, labeled “Life monad” and “Being monad,” which correspond to the two upper sections of the Line. Under “Life monad” are all the planets in rulership (Life), and under “Being monad” are all the planets in rulership (Being).
