The points of the cardinal cross are associated with the four gnostic functions: Aries (fire) on the ascendant with perception, Cancer (water) on the nadir with intuition, Libra (air) on the descendant with rational cogitation, and Capricorn (earth) on the midheaven with sensation. The four quadrants are labeled with the signs of houses 9-12.
