The Dignities of the First and Second Quadrants and the Henads Associated with Them

The top line of planetary glyphs consists of the nine dignities of houses 1-3 (first quadrant), and the bottom line consists of the ten dignities of houses 4-6 (second quadrant). (Only nine dignities of the first quadrant are listed since the Dragon’s Head is omitted.) Each line is divided into four groups: rulerships, exaltations, detriments, and falls.

Each planet has zodiacal signs listed below, above, or both below and above it. These signs are the other signs in which that planet is in dignity, and all together they constitute the henad of the planet. The signs in which the planet is in dignity, when read from top to bottom, are in the following order: rulerships, exaltations, detriments, and falls, and when a planet has two rulerships or two detriments, the rulership (Being) comes before the rulership (Life) and the detriment (Nature) comes before the detriment (Soul), with the exception that for the signs listed above Saturn in Aries, Cancer is above Leo but Saturn in Cancer is a Soul detriment and Saturn in Leo is a Nature detriment. The result is that some signs are listed above and others below the planet in the list. (In some similar diagrams, the Nature detriment comes after the Soul detriment.)
