How the Demiurge Assimilates the Twelve Ideas

The twelvefold circle is the metaphysical chart, which has four rings that contain the dignities grouped as rulerships, exaltations, detriments, and falls. The twelve Ideas, with the short-form meanings of the twelve zodiacal signs according to T. S. Row, are placed around the outside of the circle.

Inside the circle is a vesica, divided into twelve sectors by the twelvefold circle.

Along the inside of the perimeter of the vesica are the dignities of houses 9-12, distributed so that the house-9 dignities are in the first quadrant of the vesica, the house-10 dignities are in the second quadrant, the house-11 dignities are in the third quadrant (and instead of the five “empties” in the exaltation ring in house 11, the glyphs for the remaining Chaldean planets are listed), and the house-12 dignities are in the fourth quadrant. Damiani sometimes refers to this configuration of dignities as the “Jupiter ring” or “Demiurgic Intellect ring.”

Each dignity in the Jupiter ring is associated with one of the possible sixteen states of consciousness, where the first quadrant and the rulership ring are associated with turiya, the second quadrant and the exaltation ring with prajna, the third quadrant and the detriment ring with taijasa, and the fourth quadrant and the fall ring with vaishvanara.

In this diagram, the state of consciousness is determined by taking the quadrant position of the dignity first and the ring position second. For example, Jupiter in Sagittarius is taijasa-turiya because it is in the third quadrant (taijasa) and the rulership ring (turiya).

In a similar diagram, L01, there is an arrow from Venus in Aries in house 1 of the metaphysical chart to Jupiter in Sagittarius in house 1 of the vesica, an arrow from Mars in Taurus in house 2 of the metaphysical chart to the Dragon’s Tail in Sagittarius in house 2 of the vesica, and an arrow from Jupiter in Gemini in house 3 of the metaphysical chart to Mercury in Sagittarius in house 3 of the vesica.

In some classes on this topic (e.g., February 9, 1979), Damiani explains that these arrows indicate how the Demiurge assimilates the Ideas represented by houses 1-3. The assimilation is made possible by the common substance of the two planets in each house (one in the metaphysical chart and the other in the vesica), which is indicated by their sharing the same state of consciousness. For example, in house 1 of the metaphysical chart, Venus in Aries is turiya-taijasa, and in house 1 of the vesica, Jupiter in Sagittarius is taijasa-turiya, so they share taijasa consciousness. Similarly, the other nine dignities in houses 4-12 of the Jupiter ring are assimilating the Ideas represented by houses 4-12.

However, since the dignities in houses 4-12 of the vesica are all in the fourth quadrant, which is associated with vaishvanara consciousness, they assimilate the corresponding Idea through the planets in fall in houses 4-12 of the metaphysical chart since the fall ring is also associated with vaishvanara consciousness. For example, Saturn in Aquarius in house 7 of the vesica is associated with vaishvanara-turiya, and the Sun in Libra in house 7 of the metaphysical chart is associated with taijasa-vaishvanara, so they share vaishvanara consciousness.

Finally, to the left of the circle, the ten dignities of houses 1-3 are listed, and the two Nature detriments are bracketed and labeled as the “nature of the Idea of the Good.”
