standing form of piece = earth

melodic flow, movement, rhythm = water

force of motion from unmanifest to manifest = fire, its impulsion - will to manifest

laws of music = air, structuring any piece

capacity of piece to reveal something unmanifest and divine = ether

Levels of objectivity within music from manifest to more subtle.

hear it - earth

hear it next day in your head - water

underlying feeling throughout changes - fire - particularity which is not in ether - individual being of piece

Ether - Air - Fire - Water - Earth: lower contain higher, earth has intelligibility (ether), but ether does not have manifestness (earth).

Objective ideation [lower half of diagram] concerned with manifestation.

Prakriti -- has 7 ethers, 7 prakritis. We know of 5 (elements).

Tony [Anthony Damiani (AD)]: Qualitative aspects are missed by scientist, can't go from particular to universal.

Example: Heat and light as undifferentiated universal principles from which evolve particular, separate units.

Our thinking is determined to its roots by Descartes, Kant, Locke, etc. -- starting with particular. They divide sensible world into subjective and objective -- bifurcate Nature and can't reunite it.

Ether: qualitative, not quantitative. Objective, conceivable qualities, but ungraspable conceptually. Everything is not motion like science says -- frequencies, particles, waves. What we know of world is a constant metamorphosis of perception. What maintains it, causes perceptions, etc. (science -- underlying substrate of indestructible, non-perceivable matter.)

Objective Ideation [bottom half of FIGURE 1974 0609-1-AB, Subjective and Objective Aspects of Ishvara] -- state of being (non-spatial, temporal, causal), below [is] state of becoming (space, time, causality).

7 ethers constantly active in cosmos -- 4 now manifest -- evolve one out of another.

Fifth coming (clairvoyance, etc) -- higher ethers → fuller manifestation of latent potentialities.

4 are perceived phylo and ontogenetically.

First - heat - circular - tendency to expansive radiation. Forms spherical forms.

Second - light - triangular - also expansive - radiates from a central point (heat also).

Third - sound

Fourth - life

[Sound and life] draw into a center and concentrate in a specific point -- centrifical, suctional.

Second exerts its effects in Nature, produces triangles in a substantial medium -- a living expression of it.

Fire is already a secondary use of heat.

Sun overhead -- sound and life ethers raise upward, cause rotation of Earth.

Can't perceive ether(s) in equations -- must experience them.

When the second Sun is reached is when the ultimate path begins? -- at second Sun you are not liberated.

Emancipation of function from its instinctual form -- orbs increase from 1 to 10.

paragraph 378 -- how could unity of consciousness be [in] jeopardy. Unity of psychic system is? What does Jung mean by consciousness? Not the supreme principle of awareness -- two meanings for same word. Jung seems to say there is a (gradient) of consciousness.

Sun up -- sound and life exert pressure up on light heat, mercury goes up.

Sun down -- reverse.

Fire, air, earth, water -- an objective condition in the matter present to us, structured by the four principal ethers.

All psychological experience is in terms of the these four conditions (element), determined by etheric principles.

Water 3) Sound -- chemical ether -- affinity of chemicals -- differentiation, combination, dissolution, union -- [picture of half moon] half moon -- transmits perceptible tone, sound, through their activities

Earth 4) life ether = [symbolized by square]

[Half Moon and Square are] Egyptian symbolism.

Ethers produced one out of another like tattvas → different degrees of existence.

All phenomena understood in terms of their interaction.

3rd -- two colossi in Egyptian desert -- sunrise, they emitted a certain sound, due to a certain form.

Tone causes uniting together of forms and substances in space. Suctional.

4th -- Most phylogenetically evolved -- most varied and complicated suction -- related to gravity and magnetism -- cause them.

Water and earth tend to go to center of Earth -- life ether surrounded by sound, light, heat. Also an atom -- a unit of substance. Belt of warmth surrounding Earth's atmosphere.

4 and 3 -- core of Earth -- continents

2 -- atmosphere

1 -- belt of warmth

[In reference to 1 and 2]: 3 and 4 hold it back from flying out.

[In reference to 1-4]: Earth tries to keep this [word cut off of scan]

Kepler -- Harmony of the Spheres (or Universe?) [Note: Kepler wrote two books in this regard, The Cosmographic Mystery (Mysterium Cosmographicum) and Harmonies of the World (Harmonies Mundi), where he developed the concept of the Harmony of the Spheres. Not clear whether the book or the concept is being referred to.]

Sun breaks form down -- Sun up -- 3 and 4 go up. 3 brings dew up. Water condensing is due to sound.

Conflict of four ethers → experienced world.

Sun down -- 3 and 4 return to static form.

Sun up -- relation of rings are dislocated -- like heliotropism.

Ethers follow Sun → rotation. Cause of Earth's rotation is intrinsic to and within Earth, not Sun (a hole in the sky).

Tendency of ethers are to cause certain forms in substances -- hailstone forms -- result of them passing through three layers. Triangular. Forms are mundane representations of principles above.

Everything in a universe is a result of these activities.

Planet in fire sign is expansive.

Earth -- sucks everything into himself, all-sufficient tanmatric substance through ether form → bhuta.

Magnets point to North pole. Point of minimum disturbance of ethers (science - minimum energy disturbance).

World as Power -- analysis of a piece of paper -- p. 181 [Note: John Woodroffe (Arthur Avalon), The World as Power, Reality, Life, Mind, Matter, Causality and Continuity, Ganesh, 3rd edition, 1966. See also WG Class 1974 0908.]

Particularity is only due to subject and his experiencing.

Time and Space -- no real existence -- attributes of Akasa -- of the object, not an a priori category.

Universe in seed form -- its unfoldment is accompanied by Time and Space -- no Time and Space independent of it.

Ideal realm is vijnana -- beyond tanmatric.

Tanmatra -- mind stuff in its unmixed mode.

Agni -- goddess = warmth ether.
