This series of classes is a wide-ranging exploration of how consciousness functions symbolically, drawing from Buddhist, Vedantic, Jungian, Scholastic, and Platonic traditions. Damiani synthesizes these diverse epistemological approaches to create a comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms underlying perception, projection, and knowledge acquisition.

The series begins with Jung’s concept of symbolic functioning and expands to examine how consciousness itself operates symbolically at multiple levels—from the highest epistemological functioning down to fantasies and dreams. Damiani examines three core themes: mind as a storehouse of images (vasanas) from all prior perception; the mechanism of projection and superimposition that creates experienced reality; and the dual movement of knowledge through the “senses as entrances and exits.”

The series progresses from basic concepts of symbolic functioning toward increasingly sophisticated analyses of the relationship between form and matter in objects, the role of number in ordering manifestation, the mechanics of immediate versus mediate knowledge, the interplay between individual and cosmic mentalism, and the astrological correlations of epistemological processes. Key philosophical positions examined include Buddhist point-instants and productive imagination, Vedantic superimposition theory, Jung's reflective consciousness as an evolutionary achievement, and the Scholastic view that the active intellect is individual.
