Paul Brunton's Ultramystic Exercises

This series covers events from 01/16/1983 - 02/13/1983

This four-part series of classes illuminates several of the "ultramystic" exercises described in the chapter "The Yoga of the Discerning Mind," in Paul Brunton's The Wisdom of the Overself. Sessions 1 & 3 discuss the theoretical framework for the Serpent's Path Exercise (the discontinuous vibration of the world-idea, the ego's craving for becoming that creates the illusion of continuity, the need for intense attention to insert itself into the gap between thoughts, becoming immersed in attention is being the undivided mind), and provide practical instruction in the meditation technique. Session 2 discusses the Meditation on the Future, an exercise in which you visualize how you intend to think and act the next day as you are falling asleep. Session 4 introduces PB's advanced Night Exercise, a practice done after awakening in the middle of the night, which involves both breath retention and focusing attention first on the solar plexus and then on the heart. If practiced successfully, it can culminate in absorption in the Overself. Damiani combines textual study with personal interpretation and interactive dialogue.
