Head conjunct Sun:

--Sun = degree of strength (Pope) [Sagittarius 30, "A picture of regal and sacerdotal pomp and glory reveals itself; the Pope is holding audience in his palace."]; he had to divert himself and not just be passive to what was given to him. He refused to accept a libretto that wasn't suitable and perfect.

--Both the Head/Sun and Neptune conjunct Uranus convinced him that music (opera) was the way he could have to go.

Neptune conjunct Uranus:

--The knower in him saw that the Neptune was the deep source of inspiration and feeling.

--The Reason Principles that constitute our being are feeling principles, he recognized that feelings were the source of his inspiration.

Saturn trine Sun:

--Saturn is in detriment by sign and ruler by house; he's got 2 detriments -- Saturn and Jupiter.

--Humanization of the Sun through the feelings.

Jupiter square Pluto

Saturn opposite Mars:

--Puccini had an apperception of the shadow.

--Planets in Aquarius = the loka really needs defining. [Aquarius 30, "A mystic moon-lit field near the site of a mystic and traditional Babylon has sprung into delicate white bloom."] The loka of Mars gets apperceived.

Progressed Mars stayed square progressed Venus till the end of his life.

BUTTERFLY

Neptune opposite Venus quincunx Mercury

Neptune opposite Sun:

--Hulk [Pisces 23, "A huge bulk of a woman medium has gone into trance and around her are entities continually forming and dissolving."] / Pope: oppositions show the potential you have (cont.)

Saturn opposite Sun: He got the libretto. Think of Puccini as Pinkerton.

Saturn conjunct Sun: A sense of self responsibility.

Tail: Some sort of sacrifice in the past. [Virgo 2, "A simple but impressively large white cross has been set up in splendid isolation on top of a commanding eminence."]

The Self in him (Uranus) knows what sort of libretto will be appropriate to express the idea.

The Tail (religious past) conjunct Uranus: The Knower in him was trying to point out the religious attitude of the past.

Progressed Venus conjunct Sun -- (→ Capricorn): Feelings conjoined to the purpose of his life. The central purpose was those feelings.

(Progressed Venus conjunct Sun) in Madame Butterfly.

Progressed Venus conjunct Mercury in Turandot -- This opera is much more controlled (Mercury in Capricorn).

TURANDOT

Neptune conjunct Saturn, sextile Jupiter:

--Hulk / Japanese garden party [Leo 12, "Japanese lanterns, music from a string ensemble and an animated interweaving of colorful figures mark a garden party."]: Romanticizing of the felt (Leo Saturn) "I".

--(Neptune conjunct Saturn) has a capacity to metamorphosize; Saturn = feeling quality of Leo → Here is a guarantee that the expression of the "I" will be different than ever before.

--Neptune sextile Jupiter: The limitation (sextile Saturn) could empower that metamorphosis.

--Neptune conjunct Saturn = a romanticization of the "I"; Puccini becomes the California (Kalif) [Prince Calaf] in the opera. Neptune will change what the feeling of the "I" is; the Jupiter gives clearly delineated energies that would constitute this "I".

--Saturn sextile Jupiter [Kalif [Calaf] is one of the few characters that makes a conscious choice.]

Uranus conjunct Head: The knower in him knew the ultimate value of the transformation taking place within him.

Progressed Sun conjunct Head / Progressed Head conjunct Mars:

--The intelligence that the squirrel represents was accomplished through his life. Head = squirrel [Pisces 2, "Almost as if possessed with man's intelligence a tiny squirrel remains watchful on a limb hidden from the hunters."] / Mars = inspiration / Sun = Pope.

--Sun conjunct Mars -- individuality or humanization of the primal energies--before it was potential.

--Head conjunct Mars, squirrel conjunct mystic fields; [Sun and Mars are in exact sextile.]

--Progressed Sun conjunct Head: purpose is fulfilled.

Saturn opposite Neptune

Jupiter trine Mercury

Progressed Saturn retrograde → 7 Leo

Progressed Jupiter → 13 Gemini

Progressed Venus conjunct Mercury -- Puccini could clearly articulate the level of the anima and see the difference between the anima and the shadow.

TOSCA

Pluto conjunct Jupiter etc:

--The seven Chaldeans are the categories of the imagination.

--Pluto rearranges the imaginal essences; it rearranges the vasanas.

--The two Dutch children indicates a choice. [The degree has a twofold aspect.]

--He decided to descend into the body.

--The eighth house planets indicate functions from the past.

In Manon, the play is held together by the shadows of each of the characters. Mars conjunct Neptune. The play is held together with everyone's "inferior virtues."

Puccini's Venus symbol [Sagittarius 18, "Little children are playing on the sultry beach, but each is protected from the glare by a tiny sunbonnet."]: [left blank]

The trans-Saturnians make a work of art out of the seven Chaldeans; they're working toward the universalization of the personality.

Venus degree--his feelings were constantly being refined--protected. Mars was in exact quintile to the Venus--the Mars fed vitality into the feelings. Mars got him involved--but he felt with the Venus.
