9/13/82 Emerson
Sun -- 4 Gemini -- A series of rooms in a hospitable house, opening one into the other, are decorated gaily with holly and mistletoe.
Sun degree -- Emerson was aware of the resources of his psyche.
Opposite to second house -- self-reliance would draw this out.
Question -- opposite house may show the circumstances of a planet.
Eighth house Sun -- transcendence of a particular culture. Now in ninth.
Mistletoe is especially charged with astral magnetism.

Sun = the way the primal image is part of the Dragon = the life of the individual as derived from the Dragon.
Light and life is the Sun's path traversing through the Dragon.
Sun = the light and life of the individual, the interiority of the person's ego.
Emerson's ego was open and accessible to him and festive and joyous (mistletoe and holly) = the way he regarded his ego. Inwardness, richness, an ability to put it to use. A very mature, refined, and developed ego.
Later on there was a higher subject that was aware of that ego.
Moon -- 5 Leo (now 4 Leo) -- Overhanging a vast canyon, but giving evidences of thousands of years of survival, are suggestive masses of granite.
Function of assimilation, day to day reality of a person -- Leo, self-expression
Tenth [house] in terms of the world -- lecture tours, travels, etc.
Fourth [house] opposite -- events and crises in his family brought out an impersonality and creativity inherent in his Moon.
Uranus opposite Moon -- ordained -- March 1829
The steadiness and impersonal objectivity = his Moon.
He had to take time out to make his decisions.
Moon = self-reliance.
Jupiter opposite Moon -- wife died.
Resigned -- Neptune trine Jupiter, Saturn opposite Jupiter, Saturn square Mercury
This man's strength was in his natal chart and not in the trans-Saturnians -- this shows the maturity of his ego.
He immediately actualized what he understood (in a moral way). He practiced philosophy.
Mother complex -- we all want to make our place in the conventional world and do the collective thing.
The Uranus opposite to the Moon started to break apart this anima relation to the collective -- within two years his wife died and he resigned his ministry (after Uranus opposite Mars).
The trans-Saturnians bring into the ego ideas which then remain within it.
Mars -- 8 Leo -- A man of mean and low appearance, but with the burning fire of a great cause in his eyes, is stirring up discontent.
The desire nature of Emerson was preoccupied with sharing his soul's vision (of truth as he understood it) with others.
The philosophy that he is sharing is something very deep in our nature.
Opposite degree -- wax figures [Note: Aquarius 8, "The fall-fashion display has opened in the fine stores and in their windows are beautifully gowned wax figures."] -- his vision could be embodied outwardly in almost any form.
Saturn -- 14 Virgo -- A large sheet of parchment is covered with finely lettered names and mysterious lines; it is a splendid family tree.
The inheritance that he came into was reflection on reflection.
Saturn in eleventh [house] is a great debunker of illusions.
The family is his previous incarnations providing his inheritance.

Tim reads opposite degree and interpretation from Jones. [Sagittarius 4, "A little child is learning to walk; near are happy parents wise enough to refuse unnecessary assistance."]

Anthony: Sun: life of individual as part of Dragon; Dragon as Sun's apparent circuit around the Earth, a serpentine movement, trace; Sun as light and life of the Dragon; each individual life is a participation in that whole, belongs to the Dragon; Dragon is traces of Sun projecting the primal image, therefore the Sun is the light and the life of the individual; the primal image is of the substance of the Sun; Emerson's Sun degree describes the interiority of his ego -- to his soul, the ego was completely accessible, and Emerson's appreciation was indicated by the quote Tim read.

Anthony -- asks Andrew if any of this applies to previous discussions of the division that takes place in the realm of the parikalpa imagination of the unreality, the third level? The subject-object relationship is an ongoing process. The planet is located on a degree and projects both upward [sic; typist thinks 'inward'] and outward. This power has a subjective portion and an objective manifestation of that. Buddhists call this the imagination of unreality. But this is the development of the ego, no mean thing. The Buddhists ridicule this development.

Anthony: If you will notice, the latter is an objective manifestation of a subjective function. And it is no minor thing in the development of an individual towards Bodhisattvahood to say that the degree is power toward [Note: Jones says "power through"] absolute self-integrity. (Tirade against Buddhist obscurantism.)
Anthony points out the efficacy of the imagination exemplified in PB's Meditation on Sleep. [Note: See Paul Brunton, The Wisdom of the Overself, Chapter 14, "A Meditation on Sleep".]
Anthony: Language is like a reflector or a depository for the activity of the imagination -- all degrees of native's chart will be found in his writings.
Anthony: Moon symbol evidenced in Emerson's thought-taking [sic] over inner conflict about serving the Eucharist.
Tim reads from Emerson's journal written at that time in his life, July 1832, Uranus opposite the Moon. [Note: See Bliss Perry (Ed.), Ralph Waldo Emerson, The Heart of Emerson's Journals, pp. 58-59. Uranus was opposite Emerson's Moon in 1829, not 1832. Emerson gave up ministering in September of 1832 but Uranus was nowhere near his Moon at that time.]
