Jung's Saturn [Aquarius 25, "A butterfly struggles to emerge from the chrysalis and it seems that the right wing is more perfectly formed."] was originally directed towards reasoning with conjecture until it was hit by a trans-Saturnian when it was able to reason more purely (without images) for a time.

The sensible body projects image and within that body reasoning operates and attempts to understand the images.

Neptune conjunct Mercury Venus -- met Freud, trip to USA, began private practice

Pluto conjunct Mercury Venus -- Africa travels, Ruth Bailey, research on alchemy, V7 (Two Essays on Analytical Psychology)

Uranus conjunct Mercury Venus --

Pluto on Venus he comes up with these fictitious concepts. (Anima is gateway to unconscious.)

Recognition on his part that aspiration (Venus) has the power to lead you -- but to what, is unknown.

When Venus Mercury is hit (ND) [Note: Not clear what ND refers to.] the function is brought into greater consciousness, but not the meaning.

Opposite degree -- imprint of oneself on the world. [Capricorn 18, "From the proud new warship of Britannia in token of her maritime power flies the Union Jack in calm dignity."]

Two Essays were what he did -- his clinical approach which made him famous. It was not reasoning because he didn't understand why he did it, or the reasons behind it.

Opinion is knowledge but it does not know the reasons behind a thing.

Emerson example

Dignities: Mercury Jupiter Venus -- are in aspect to each other natally.

Quote realizing that God divides himself into the what and the who.

Neptune conjunct Head, Uranus opposite Uranus

Jupiter and Mercury -- experience of a living spiritual/philosophic knowledge.

Platonists -- Being/Abiding, Life/Proceeding, Intellect/Converting.

To get to Being, Intellect must make available who and what we are.

Detriment -- knowledge of the correct feeling-tone to go with a situation (ethics).

Exaltation -- correct thoughts to accompany what's going on (activity).

Fall -- correct embodiment of a reason-principle, or incorrect. Sensation can be correct or incorrect. Moon in Scorpio, Venus in Virgo, love of analogies to explain ideas (especially physical analogies). The soul knows the proper form for an idea and its embodiment. As embodied, it doesn't know it.

8 bhavas of buddhi:

4) Dharma -- fall -- correct embodiment of reason-principles; adharma = incorrect embodiment of reason-principles, or understanding of its embodiment.

1) Aishwarya -- rulership -- will in conformity with reality or the idea which buddhi has.

2) Jnana -- exaltation -- correct knowledge.

3) Vairagya -- detriment -- freedom of feeling.

[1, 2, and 3] operate through buddhi = rulership; operate through ahamkara = belief; operate through manas = imagination.

Fall -- actual embodiment has to be in conformity with the World-Idea but is not necessarily conscious.

Pure bhavas are moving away from manifestation.

Impure bhavas are moving towards manifestation.

Dignities can operate either way -- both are gnostic.

Impure is conformity to imaged world (as manifested in manas).

Pure is conformity to real world (ideas in buddhi).

[The] two are not inconsistent -- in a Sage, both are operative.

vrittis = non-dignities

Emerson's descriptions of Nature were concerned with the activity of Nature.
