Notes on the Dragon

If we examine the 360 degrees, associated with each degree is a symbol, an image, which is then followed by a psychological commentary of that symbol. These images are what we are referring to as the earth's memory. The totality of possible permutations and combinations of these images constitutes the storehouse of content deposited by the lived experience of mankind. The totality of these 360 degrees would constitute the so-called subconscious or Jung's archetypes of the collective unconscious. This is the life of the Dragon, the earth's memory of all that has transpired within its domain. It can be conceived of as a totality or a single organism--which includes all the degrees to be found in the horoscope. It is to be distinguished from the celestial Ideas which were instantiated or manifested by the functioning of the cosmocrators.

This is the irrational life with its inherent dynamic and vital energies which is present in every living animal organism of which man can become reflectively aware as constitutive of his ego.

The karma of an individual is associated with the living out of these vasanas as they are incarnated in a body. -- The organization of these vasanas gives rise to certain predispositions, intense in their compulsive nature and grossly or subtly getting manifested as the psychological experience of an individual. Their organization as the psycho-somatic organism is what constitutes the matrix of tendencies, etc., that is referred to as the ego. The glamour and fascination which they exercise on the human Soul is revealed by our preoccupation with our fantasy life. This is Plato's cave--images in water. It lives in and through every one of its creatures, i.e., its experience of pain and pleasure is through its creatures, referred to in folklore and legend as the Dragon--the Wisdom of the instincts or the body. Its revelation is in dreams, i.e., a manipulation of images, symbols, animals, etc., or in waking fantasy.
